Process Re-engineering
A high value component to successfully implement an EHR (Electronic Health Records) with CPOE (Computerized Physician Order Entry) is the analysis of clinical data and its integration with various systems. Anthelio's approach with clinical data integrity begins by establishing the Source of Truth. Source of Truth is defined as the origin of a data element. As the data element Source of Truth travels across applications, interfaces and workflows, the integrity of the data must be maintained without compromise.
Clinical work flows are captured and analyzed in the current state for operational stress points, process defects as well as built in work arounds that were developed in response to filling process gaps. Future state work flows are designed to use the EMR technology in the context of delivering care. The operational stress points, process defects and work arounds are re-engineered and managed through the new future state. This analysis and solution set is more than navigating from one screen to the next within the technology. The Anthelio Process Improvement Methodology designs and supports the Five Rights that must be present for improved clinical decision making:
- The Right Data - Data Source of Truth is validated/verified so that Patient Data is accurate across all systems.
- The Right Patient - Positive Patient ID for all Patient Data elements including medical device data.
- The Right Clinician - Patient Data access is ensured for all clinicians and collaborative teams.
- The Right Clinical Context - Patient Data elements reflect the patient as a whole across multiple diagnoses/conditions using a consistent, focused and integrated/aggregated data presentation.
- The Right Time - Patient Data is available on time, when needed to make accurate and effective clinical decisions, as close as possible to the actual point of care.
The result is leveraged and trusted knowledge that provide clinicians with confidence that their decisions are supported through accurate and timely information. This effort also provides more effectiveness with regard to clinical decision support. Decision support and order sets are designed to add sufficient content to manage case complexity and context. This foundation allows our clients to engineer a more productive, reliable and measurable future state. The engineered future state is designed to be consistent with ARRA (The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) quality reporting, compliance standards, and EMR usability.
