Lawrence "Larry" Schunder
President of Business Process Outsourcing
With an international background in sales and global accounts, Larry Schunder has managed global accounts, millions of dollars in business and led divisions at one of the nation's largest business technology corporations. It would be easy for someone like Schunder to rest on his well-earned laurels, but instead Schunder sees an opportunity to use what he knows to make a difference in an important industry: healthcare.
Schunder began globe trotting early in his career, when he worked for Dallas-based technology giant EDS as an international sales manager. He was responsible for managing the development and sales of electronic funds transfer on a worldwide system. Schunder then took charge of a group that bid on contracts around the world, eventually accumulating a portfolio with revenue potential of more than $1 billion.
Schunder's marketing talents were recognized at Affiliated Computer Services ("ACS"), a company he joined in 1992. He was tasked with handling ACS' technical accounts and then the company's troubled accounts before moving to the outsourcing division. As senior vice president in charge of outsourcing, Schunder integrated the combined outsourcing groups' services and culture, experience that would prove to be an advantage in the future. He also managed client activities, sales, contract negotiation and data center management before heading up ACS' electronic markets in ACS' e-commerce and desktop outsourcing divisions.
In addition to gaining valuable experience at ACS, Schunder had the opportunity to again work with business technology pioneer, Charles "Chick" Young, whom Schunder first met while at EDS. When Young founded PHNS with partner Rick Kneipper in
1999, they put Schunder's talent and experience to work at the budding hospital information technology services company. Schunder serves as
President of Business Process Outsourcing of PHNS, where he is responsible for oversight and day-to-day operations of all PHNS service lines and customers.
But it's the opportunity to put his extensive experience in technology and marketing to work for the healthcare industry that excites Schunder. He believes that PHNS is leading change in an industry that has needed a business and technology makeover for decades. He also shares his experience with industry groups such as the Data Processing Management Association, where he served as president.
Schunder and his wife, Jean, live in Dallas with their two children. A Boy Scout troop leader, he is also involved in several youth activities including church basketball and YMCA league soccer. Community activities include North Texas Advisory Board, Make-a-Wish Foundation; President HPISD Orchestra Booster Club; HPISD Band Booster Club and volunteer and fund raiser for Scottish Rite Hospital of Texas. It's just another way Schunder gives back to the healthcare community. |
