Dave Canfield founded Canfield & Associates, now PHNS’ Business Office division, in 1985 and quickly became one of the leading providers of outsourced accounts receivable management for the healthcare industry. When Canfield founded this company his goal was to assist hospitals in resolving and maintaining their accounts receivable at an acceptable level, while at the same time reducing operating and bad debt expense.

Today, Canfield is one of the most innovative minds in the receivables management industry with over 36 years of experience in healthcare financial management including high-level positions at several healthcare facilities.

Recently, Canfield was appointed to the prestigious position as the National Chairman of Healthcare Financial Management Association (“HFMA”) for 2003-2004. Canfield has been involved in Patient Financial Services consulting engagements at over 50 hospitals.

As President of the Business Office Division, Canfield oversees the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of PHNS’ Business Office Division.

Prior to founding the Company in 1985, Canfield was Director of Patient Accounts at Daniel Freeman Hospital for eight years. Previously, he was the Director of Patient Accounts at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for three years and Director of Patient Accounts at Eisenhower Memorial Hospital for two years. Canfield began his career at Good Samaritan Hospital where he held several titles, culminating in Business Office Director.  Canfield earned a Master of Health Service Administration from Golden Gate University . Mr. Canfield also received a B.A. in Business Administration and a B.S. in Public Health from California State University, San Jose .
